For a few bucks more, a VF2 can be had, which is the same physical footprint as the VF1, but you gain an extra 10" of X travel. We chose the VF2 for several reasons. It is a lot more rigid than the Mini Mill series, due to a full cast iron base. The Mini Mill series sits on a weldment. Also, the VF has a separate coolant tank.

Your going to spend 20,000 for a tool room mill without any options. $30,000 plus for there mini's. If thats all your doing a cnc knee mill would work and be a hell of a lot cheaper.

Back in 2009 when I was looking for a first mill looked at the TM-1, mini mill and supper mini but ended up with a Hurco VM-10. Optioned about the same the Hurco was close on price but has a few more HP and 10 more tools. More tools may not be an issue now but in a year or two it will be!. Get an enclosed machine or wear a rain coat on the job.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on one of the above. Our needs are met by the envelope of the VF2. 99% of our needs are met by the envelope of a VF1, but from my perspective for a shop where this is the only modern CNC mill, it'd be foolish to buy the VF1 just to save $4K vs. the VF2. So it really looks like a question between the TM2P and VF2.
